Broadway District is Bringing Back BROADWAY BUCKS Win $250 in Gift Certificates Good at Participating Broadway Businesses
April 1, 2010, Fair Lawn, NJ – Attention shoppers from Fair Lawn and surrounding communities. The Broadway Improvement Corporation (BIC) wants to hear the sounds of happy consumers in Fair Lawn’s Broadway Business District. To provide some added incentive, BIC is bringing back the successful Broadway Bucks gift certificate program introduced in 2009. Ten winners will be drawn on June 1, 2010 to receive $25 gift certificates for a total of $250 good at participating businesses in the Broadway District. Online entries only at
www.BroadwaySID.com. Entries must be received by May 31, 2010 and the gift certificates are valid until August 31, 2010.
Based on feedback from local business owners and consumers who participated in the program last year, they hope to see more gift certificates in their future.
Les Frenkel owns Chicken Galore (34-01 Broadway) with his wife Elyss. In business since 1956, many consider Chicken Galore’s fried chicken, expertly prepared in trans fat free oil, to be the area’s best. Chicken Galore also offers an extensive menu of non-fried foods, including grilled chicken, salads and more. He admits to being surprised when so many customers, both longtime friends and new faces, showed up with Broadway Bucks gift certificates from the first promotion.
“Getting new customers in the door for the first time can be tough for a small business like ours that competes with so many national chains backed by big advertising budgets,” says Frenkel. “Every little bit helps and the gift certificates were a good idea during tough times and continue to be a good idea for people who are still watching their budgets carefully.”
While many of the winners came from Fair Lawn, residents of Elmwood Park, Glen Rock, Paramus and Saddle Brook were also awarded gift certificates. Winners redeemed their gift certificates for everything from food at Chicken Galore and Natural Way Café (23-25 Broadway), to lighting fixtures at Spivak Lighting (35-10 Broadway), oil changes at Zap Lube (37-14 Broadway) and collectibles at America’s Pastime (25-05A Broadway).
This reflects not only the convenience and accessibility of the Broadway District, but also a proactive approach to marketing by the BIC. “We have expanded our promotional efforts on behalf of the district’s business and commercial property owners to include not only Fair Lawn, but surrounding communities as well,” notes Bob Beshlian, President of the BIC. “More and more people are taking advantage of the convenience and the wide range of products, services and food they can find on Broadway to shop and dine locally.”

| Bonnie Manche of Fair Lawn used her Broadway Bucks at Spivak Lighting, and was welcomed by owner Jay Koransky. |
Bonnie Manche has lived in Fair Lawn for 22 years, and has thought about replacing a particular light fixture in her current home of 18 years since she moved in. She won two $25 gift certificates in Broadway’s 2009 promotion, and used them to purchase a new fluorescent light fixture at Spivak Lighting. After reading an article in the Community News, she decided to go online to the Broadway District’s web site. “It was easy to enter, and I was surprised to win,” says Manche. She passes other stores on the highway on her way to work in Englewood every day, but tries to support local businesses whenever she can. “The gift certificates were a great incentive to do that,” she concludes.
Spivak Lighting has been in business for more than 84 years, providing quality lighting solutions for residential and commercial customers covering a full range of interior and exterior requirements. Owner Jay Koransky says his business is built on friendly and knowledgeable service plus years of experience that translate to customer satisfaction. He notes that there are lots of great stores and restaurants in the Broadway District; the trick is getting people to recognize businesses right in their own backyard.
“Many of the businesses on Broadway have been here for years, but new residents of town need to discover what is available to shop locally,” Koransky points out. “The gift certificate program is a step in the right direction because it brings people into the district and provides real dollar value. The gift certificates can be redeemed without requiring additional expenditures, and we look forward to serving people from the local community.”
